Commitment to Inclusivity
(Passed 11/19/2013)
Statement of Purpose
Allegheny College’s student culture places great value in extracurricular involvement. With over 100 student organizations present on Allegheny’s campus, students have ample opportunity to get involved, and they very often do. This makes outreach to clubs and organizations an effective means in outreach to the general student body. Thus, we, the ASG Diversity Initiatives Committee (DIC) and ASG Senator and Class of 2015 Vice President Lee Scandinaro, would like to utilize this method of outreach through an initiative called the Commitment to Inclusivity, hereafter referred to as the “Commitment.” If an ASG-recognized club or organization elects to adopt the Commitment, executive members of that club or organization must pledge to go through an engagement process. The club must also attend an ASG Rules Committee meeting to make a constitutional change. In return, the club will receive a one-time reward of $100. This initiative serves as an incentivized strategy to promote campus-wide inclusivity.
Engagement Process (Choose 2 of 3 Trainings):
1. Safe Zone Training 1; or
2. Bystander Training; or
3. Trainings approved with the DIC.
After trainings:
4. Attendance and Meaningful Participation in an event put together by CIASS or the DIC.
Verification Process:
Each executive member of the participating club or organization will be required to inform the DIC of the completion of the engagement process. The DIC will then cross-check with the facilitators of the training and event to verify attendance and satisfactory engagement. Upon the DIC informing ASG of the club’s executive members’ completion of the Engagement Process, they will have fulfilled the Commitment and will receive their reward.
Implementation:
Once executive members go through the required trainings, the club or organization will receive the $100 incentive. This financial reward will only be offered the first year the Commitment is completed. If the club or organization wishes to remove the Commitment from their bylaws, they must go through the necessary steps of making a constitutional change.
