Class of 2018
Bios & Platforms
Alexander Calle
My name is Alexander Calle and I'm currently a freshman here, at Allegheny. Growing up I've always
participated in my schools' student government, in essence, mostly because of how crucial I feel a
student government is to each campus. The notion that students have the opportunity to voice their
opinions to a faculty who genuinely cares, excites me! As a younger child I felt that my opinions on
certain beliefs or systems were always discounted and neglected because of my age and because of
my experience as an adolescent striving to have a voice, I feel that my opinions and the sentiments of
others are just as important as anyone else's in the community; everyone deserves to be heard. With
this being said, I feel obligated to employ myself to speak on behalf of my class and not only voice my
opinion, but also the opinion of my peers. I feel blessed for once again, having another opportunity to
act as the liaison between the student body and the faculty and based off of my prior experience as a
student government representative, I have the skills and qualifications to voice the wants and needs of
the student body. I am ready to serve!
Thank you,
Alexander Calle
Zoe Jurenko-Figueroa
Hello fellow students of the Class of 2018! My name is Zoe Jurenko-Figueroa and I am running for
Allegheny Student Government. I’m originally from Olean, New York, however, I moved to Hampstead,
Maryland my junior year of high school. I chose to come to Allegheny College because I felt it was
a school that represented me as not only a student, but as a person. Allegheny is an inclusive and
respectful community that I am honored to be a part of, and I would be even more honored to
represent you as a Senator for our class. As a former secretary for my high school’s Student Government
Association, I have been actively involved in the political realm and have experience working with the
student body. I would love to be the voice that represents you and your concerns and I am more than
willing to work as hard as I need to in order to give you all the best experience here at Allegheny.
Platform:
After talking to many of you in the freshmen class, it has become apparent to me that there is a gap
between the administration and the student body. As a Senator for Allegheny Student Government, I
would like to close this gap. I want to make sure that not only are your concerns heard, but that action
is brought to help create a solution that will make both the school and the students happy. I also have
heard that many students wish there were more activities to do on weekends. With your input, I will
work towards organizing campus wide events that will bring us closer as a community while having a
kick ass time.
Alexander Marrero
Hello beautifuls! My name is Alexander Marrero and I would love the opportunity to represent our
class as an ASG senator! I’ve lived in the small mountain town of Hawley in the Pocono Mountains of
Pennsylvania for about 9 years. Compared to my other options Allegheny’s sense of academia, social
and environmental communication, and commitment to the diversity of not only the college’s student
body but in liberal education as well, far outweighed any other. I would very much enjoy my time spent
working with our system of educators and students pursuing the greater future of our family. I plan on
working towards admission to an MD/PhD program with residential work in Pediatric Cardiovascular
Surgery and a PhD in Philosophy and Socio-cultural Anthropology/ Human Development.
As a member of the Class of 2018 senate, I would work to add to our college’s perspective on diversity
and social activism in our community. I think our student body has the potential to create a network
within the community around us, and at large, that would benefit every person in this area. I believe
we can put the name “Allegheny College” into the minds of many, many more people to affect change
for the betterment of our society. I would love to help in expanding our family’s boundaries in public
and collegiate relations, especially in liberal education, and working with the student body as a whole to
provide the life changing college experience that Allegheny is known for. The Allegheny community has
already changed my life, and I simply ask for the chance to give back.
I look forward to listening to all of your beautiful minds to add to this brilliant society of ours!
Be safe and be well.
Ryan McGill
Biography: Hello, my name is Ryan McGill and I hope to be a senator for you in the class of 2018! I was
born in New York, but I moved to California when I was 3 where I spent most of my childhood and
adolescence. I am political science major, but I have a wide range of interests including science, math,
sports, and history. I have experience in leadership roles: I was the president of my high school Debate
Club for my final two years. I have 4 siblings who have influenced me greatly, such as my sister who
was key in the environmentalism club at Niagara University or another sister who is deeply committed
to LGBT rights. I believe the most important virtues are respect and compassion, for everyone and
everything, and that propagating these ideals are key to creating a more sustainable, a more inclusive
and an overall better community and world.
Platform: I came to Allegheny College for its stupendous education, its excellent statement of
community, and the desire to become part of a community which is inclusive and fun. I arrived on this
campus and have so far found all I wished for and more, however I believe we can do even better! We
need to promote the ideals I outlined in my biography: respect and compassion. Too many individuals in
the Allegheny community feel that they are without a friend who can help them through life’s tumult. In
addition, while we have taken good steps towards decreasing domestic violence; whether it be physical,
sexual, emotional or psychological, our goal should be ZERO cases. And this does not mean zero cases
reported, but zero cases occurring throughout the Allegheny community. As your senator I will work
aggressively to do my best to end this violence directed at any individual by encouraging a community
which protects and defends against such violence. Environmentalism is also important to me, as it
should be to all of us. We are doing our part at Allegheny to decrease our carbon footprint, but I see
everyday areas we can improve a better Allegheny!
David Odusanya
Hello! My name is David Odusanya (rhymes with lasagna) and I’d like to represent you on Allegheny
Student Government. I hail from the egotistical city of Los Angeles, which apparently exists in the state
of California. I chose to leave the land of “new age health” and traffic to come to Allegheny College for
two reasons. First, I wanted to go to a school where I would find a vibrant and strong community that
challenges and pushes me to be better. Secondly, I wanted to go to a school where people were actually
kind. Looking to the future, I would like to major in neuroscience, but who knows. I live my life based on
two simple principles: good vibes and love, and as an ASG senator I will represent you based on these
two principles. I believe that as a community we should aim to spread good vibes and love if we truly
wish to make a dent on the universe. Platform If elected senator my main mission will be to empower
each and every single student on campus. One way I aim to do this is to establish a website similar to
the White House’s “We the People” page where Allegheny students can start petitions and if it passes a
certain threshold it must be addressed by ASG and the administration if needed. I’d also like to see more
interactions between the administration and the student body. I propose scheduling regular open town
hall meetings where there can be a space for dialogue between the administration and the students.
Compared to the voice of a unified and knowledgeable student body, my voice is insignificant. So come
to me with your ideas and I will try to direct you to the right places to get your voice heard. I won’t move
mountains for you mainly because I’m a very literal person but I will move small dirt piles so that you
may get your voice heard. So if you’d like to, vote David Odusanya for ASG Senator; #versacevote
Kierra Price
ASG Bio and Platform Kierra Price Hello fellow classmates! My name is Kierra Price and I want you to
vote for me as a Senator for the amazing, diverse class of 2018! I was born and raised in Pennsylvania
in the small town of Leechburg! The second I drove through Meadville and entered the campus of
Allegheny, I fell in love! I am so excited to be here and to be a part of something bigger than myself! I
am planning on majoring in psychology with an undecided minor. I also plan on being actively involved
in various organizations on campus, including volunteer work. I love the diversity that this school has to
offer and I intend on immersing myself into all of the different activities.
I feel that I am perfect for the Senator position in Allegheny Student Government. I have previous
experience with student government, as I was the president of my high school’s Student Council. I had
the amazing opportunity to be a leader of my school which is what I want to do here at Allegheny! I
would be honored to be a voice of our amazing class! I am passionate about making sure that YOUR
voices and ideas are heard! As your representative, I will openly listen to YOU and make sure that you
get the best out of your Allegheny experience! If you vote for me, you will be voting for a positive impact
and active change to OUR school. I promise to be the best representative I can be for YOU.
Together, WE have the power to change what we feel needs to be changed. Together, we can!
Samantha Riddle
Hello everyone. I am Samantha Riddle and I am running for Allegheny Student Government for my class
of 2018. I have always been involved in organizations at my high school, including student government.
I was the President of my class and of our charity organization. I have held offices in many other clubs,
as well. I am from a small town with a very small class size, but we worked hard to make it a great place
to be. I would like to continue my work here at Allegheny to improve our already beautiful campus in
any ways needed. I plan to major in Global Health and minor in Communication Arts. I am very friendly,
outgoing, and willing to work hard to creatively improve student life as a part of the Allegheny Student
Government.
I strongly believe that as a member of student government, people should feel comfortable
approaching me with ideas or concerns. I strive to put as much effort as needed into helping people get
their opinions voiced, so that we can make a difference for them. I have several ideas that I could talk
about forever that would make this campus even better than it is currently. I want to make everyone
respect, love and enjoy Allegheny as much as I do. Thank you for your time.
Elizabeth Rivette
Bio: My name is Elizabeth (Lizzie) Rivette. I am from Palo Alto, California and I would like to be a
class senator for the Class of 2018. In high school I was the writing editor in chief of the literary arts
magazine and the swim team manager. I was a vice president of the Free the Children’s Club and PROOF
magazine. I swam for three years and played on my schools water polo team for four years.
Platform: Here at Allegheny, I want to represent the people in our class and work hand in hand with my
fellow senators to better our campus, school, and community. I would like the chance to get to know all
of you better and understand what I can do for you to help make your experiences over the next four
years the absolute best they can be. Remember, don’t be ditsy, vote for Lizzie!
Madeline Rose
Biography Hey everyone! My name is Madeline (Maddie) Rose and I am from Bentonville, Arkansas. I
attended Bentonville High School for most of my four years where I was a representative of our student
body of about 4,500. The end of my freshman year to the middle of my sophomore year, I lived in
Palm Harbor, Florida; while there, I was a part of color guard for Tarpon Springs Outdoor Ensemble.
For thirteen years, I danced competitively. And, while I am the first to admit I am awful at sports, I
can’t wait to support our Gators by attending games and cheering loudly! Since the age of nine, I have
been a vegetarian and helped to bring awareness to animal rights and the destructive consequences of
factory farming to equally domesticated animals and humans. Academically, I plan to pursue a major in
Neuroscience and minor in Philosophy; I love to discuss how and why patterns of behaviors in humanity
emerge and stick around. I am always up to chat and discuss your views versus mine and I believe the
best way for us to uphold our community statement is to listen to each other. Communication is key,
and necessary, for our time here at Allegheny to be truly successful. I can't wait to meet all of you and
I hope you see I am an eclectic candidate that can understand various perspectives. I am eager to help
push forward the most beneficial legislation for our student body.
Platform:
While a part of the Allegheny Student Government, my goal would be to get the organization more
involved with issues around the school. Being the bicentennial year, I believe we all can agree that this
is an unusually important time to make changes that otherwise could get overlooked. This year I want
to be involved with making those changes; I am at the beginning of my four year journey here, just like
many of you, and it is our job to make sure we are paving the way to have this experience be all it can
be and more. I’m eager and ready to hear about our problem areas and help find feasible solutions
to them. A strong interest of mine is planning events that bring us together and help us to relate and
“de-stress” as a unit. With the help of game nights or fundraising events- like outdoor relay races or
pageants- everyone can express their own individuality while helping a great cause and having fun with
their friends. As a vegetarian, I can identify with the obstacles we face everyday. Thus my first proposal,
which you can already find on the board in Mckinz, will be the acquisition and distribution of vanilla
Greek yogurt. Thank you, in advance, for your vote and I look forward to serving you for the years to
come.
Tyrani Sanders
Biography
My name is Tyrani Sanders. I am a freshmen or “first year”. I value greatly the opportunity ASG has
presented to me to possibly represent the freshmen class. It is my desire to be elected one of the ten
senators of the 2018 class. I am from Mesquite, TX. During high school I was a part of the JROTC, band,
FCA, and theatre programs.
