Constituent Comments

Nathan Malachowski

Coming in to voice concerns

– Passes out handouts –

Larry Hailsham

Nathan, would you like for us to

We should wait for the moment at which we're in smaller groups in which we can talk

Autumn Vogel

I'm going to suggest that you all take this back to your classes and discuss it, and think about how to address two or three of these concerns, at least.

Kevin Crooks

Do any senators want to make any comments or suggestions?

Alexis Nielson

I would like to thank you for coming in, and I have

I think that, as ASG, we should feel uncomfortable about that; that we're spending student's money to have a formal and dinner and things like that

Larry Hailsham

I think that's something we can definitely do

Aviv Lang

In our smaller groups, we can think about addressing these

As a large organization, if we can think about drafting something that addresses these concerns

Lee Scandinaro

At first, it's natural to feel defense, but I think it's important to take these concerns and turn them into something proactive.

Jen Glen

I think that some of these need to be discussed, but a lot of them are our job to do anyway, so we should be looking through this and figuring out what we should be doing anyway

But a lot of this is what we should be doing anyway

Larry Hailsham

Cabinet is meeting Thursday in CC303, and we'll talk in-depth about this

Please make sure you talk about this in your class meeting too

Thank you for coming in and addressing your concerns

Unfinished Business

New Business

1. Ad Hoc Divestment Committee -

We, we being Nathan and I and a bunch of other people, would like to propose an ad hoc committee called Fossil Fuel Reform

Goals: Continuing the conversation of Fracking at Bousson and encouraging ASG

Directly coordinate with ASG on Divestment and work towards an ASG Resolution

Grant Richman

Are you looking for another resolution similar to the one we passed about fracking last semester?

Lee Scandinaro

In case anyone doesn't know what the purpose of an ad hoc committee is, it's something that serves a single purpose and

Garrett Devenney

It's really important to continue this conversation, especially with the Freshman class now, and other topics as well; incoming Freshmen won't know about these things

ASG needs to be a better job of educating our incoming classes on what has been happening on previous years

Grace Flowers

Informing the Committee – is it going to be a committee that's going to look at both sides of the issue, or is it going to be a committee

? Sweater Girl

Divest Allegheny's goal is Divestment; the goal of this committee is to

We're not forcing you to make this resolution; we're opening an avenue that productive conversation can take place

Larry Hailsham

Approving an ad hoc committee requires a simple majority

Could you repeat the name of that committee?

Kelly Williams

Fossil Fuel Reform at Allegheny College

Aviv Lang

I move to approve Fossil Fuel Reform at Allegheny College as an ad hoc committee

Alexis Nielson

Second

Acronym: FFRAC

Grant Richman

Is there a timeline for the ad hoc committee?

Larry Hailsham

You should have something to present to ASG this semester

Kelly Williams

Since Nathan and I are all seniors, there would be a need for us to present something this semester

Vote

Approved

Larry Hailsham

If any senators would like to be part of this ad hoc committee, I would like for you to drop Nathan a line

It's important that we're all involved

President's Report – Kevin Crooks

I'm a little taken aback by these constituent comments, in a great way

1. Apology

A. What I should have done, hindsight, is probably proposed it to be voted on by the Senate, so it would be a little more open, so I apologize for not

In the future, that's a good kind of precedent, so we should be questions

B. I want to apologize between tonight's meeting in that there was a miscommunication between myself and Gilly Ford, who does all of the scheduling for AEC. That ended up not working out on both sides, but I couldn't really just cancel and rearrange everything.

2. Thank you, everybody, for being here! I really wish everyone would stay and talk about these issues and talk about the ad hoc committee we've formed

Hopefully some of the Cabinet will be here; we can form some goals

Next Tuesday, Rick Holmgrim will be coming to our meeting to talk about Middlestates, which is really important because they are the ones that give us our accreditation.

Shoutout to Evelyn; we're going to approve her next week

Shoutout to LeeAnn for joining us

Does anyone have any comments, questions, discussion questions?

Assessing the effects of the gluten-free diet on mood, stress, and cognitive functions

We need a lot of diverse participants, people that aren't our friends, etc

There's a Facebook

You can sign up on SONA

SONA is the Psychology Department's recruitment website; you make a really quick, easy account, and that's how they keep track of what's happening

Sam Quagliana

Why should we sign up?

Lauren Moore

1. It's almost like a rite of passage to help seniors graduate

2. And you can win a $10 market house gift card

3. Some Psychology professors offer extra credit, but that's something you would have to work out with your

Anna White

How many credits would you give?

Lauren Moore

That depends on your professor

Sam Talerico

I really like the idea of this dinner tonight

I think that in American culture we're really centered around the table and eating with your friends and family

Larry Hailsham

Support Lauren in her endeavors and support all of us.
